Cardiff Dogs' Home
Cllr Margaret Jones, Executive Member for the Environment said: "The Cardiff Dogs Home looks after more than 1200 dogs a year, and is really committed to caring for all of the dogs in its care. I would urge anyone who has an interest in the welfare of the stray dogs of Cardiff and the work that goes into finding them new homes to think about joining the ‘Friends of Cardiff Dogs Home' group. There are many ways to support Cardiff Dogs' Home. Whether you are able to volunteer your time or make donations, no matter what you do, it all helps."
One reason that 'Friends' has been set up is to help Fundraise for the Dogs Home and we are looking for volunteers to help raise funds, whether as a one off or on a regular basis, either going out and about or from the comfort of your own home.
We're sure you have more of your own ideas so please join in on our forum. We are a very friendly crowd, dedicated to helping the work of the Dogs' Home and would love to see you.

K9 Slip - Tan & White JRT x « Thread Started on May 21, 2012, 9:44pm »
Slip has only just come into CDH, and is still a little nervous and skittish, which is understandable as she must be bemused by her surroundings.
Hmmmm, We think Slip may be pregnant and if the vet confirms this she won't be available for rehoming until after she had weaned her pups.
She is a very pretty little girl, was very gentle with treats, but was too interested in what was was going on around her to focus much on the sossige lady

Had the pleasure of walking this delightful little girl (soon to be mum) today. She is so perfect walking on the lead that you have to keep checking that you actually have a dog with you! It was pretty hot when we went out, but she seemed to enjoy her stroll, stopping to sniff at every opportunity, and not complaining even though she's carrying around a heavy load lol. Such a shame that Slip won't be available to rehome for a while, but can't imagine that she will have any problems finding a home once her pups have been weaned. She is a smashing, friendly, licky, well behaved little dog - pretty much perfect from what I can see.

Slip had her pups last night/today, 4, 3 of them black and 1 black and white. Mum and pups are doing well, Slip, you're a great Mum
As usual for new mums at the Home , she is not receiving visitors so that she can relax and nuture them in peace. When they are about 5-6 weeks old, the Home will release the date that they will start taking reserves, so please don't enquire until the date is published - that would be really appreciated, Thank you

(I think I may throw my lap top out as this is my third attempt at writing about the lovley Slip).
Slip was really really interactive with us and seemed more interested in us than the walk itself. She just wanted to play, have cuddles and be told she is a good girl. I instantly felt connected with her as she just makes you feel that way.
She is young and incredibly pretty (her photos do not do her justice, so please come and meet her?), with the loveliest deep brown eyes!
She was fantastic with my children and got into a 'play' stance whenever she saw another dog. We had to keep the walk short so she could get back to her pups but hope to walk her again!
We are now firm 'Slip' fans and are quite confident that anyone who meets her will fall for her, like we did!

I am interested in adopting one of Slip's puppies. I had a Jack Russell for nearly 11 years until sadly she died 3 weeks ago. I was given your details by a member of staff at Summerhill Vets in Newport who volunteers with you. She will testify that I am a good responsible and loving owner. I am looking for a puppy at the end of July when I can devote 24/7 time to settle a new puppy in to my home. Please contact me or let me know what I need to do next.

Hi Jeanne,
Slips puppies will not be ready for rehoming until the end of Julyish when they are 8 weeksish old. 2-3 weeks beforehand the Home will open a reserve list - they will not take reserves before this date - so if they haven't decided on the date yet, make sure that you phone them 1st week in July and ask when the Reserve list will open.
Or our Mia has 3 pups, that will be ready to be rehomed around 1-2nd week on July - Have you seen Mia HERE Same thing, ask if they have a date for the reserve list
Don't forget that we haven't a clue who either of the dads were so can't be sure what the pups will grow into

Thanks for your prompt replies!!! I shall certainly be on the phone first thing as soon as they are ready for rehoming. I am not too worried about the dad - my little Pixie's dad was an unknown and she was a real beauty! Mum was a smooth JacK Russell, but she was shaggy with long legs. x
we visited Slip today and put a reserve on her! she's so lovely and friendly! really hope to take her home soon!
Laura you've made my day!! so pleased this lovely lady has a home to go to once her pups are old enough for her to be rehomed - fantastic
came to the dogs home today and took Slip out for a walk! she's an absolute beauty and i've fallen in love with her, she's a dog version of myself! we were the second family to place a reserve so im just crossing my fingers that we'll be able to make her part of our family!
