Report it lost!
It's a traumatic experience to lose a dog, however most owners are reunited with their pets in the end. Lost dogs are picked up by the dog warden and cared for at the dogs home. The general public also bring dogs into the home if they find them.
If you lose a dog, phone: Your local dog warden Tel: 029 2070 8141 or 029 2071 1243
Then Spread the word!
Phone your local veterinary surgeries Talk to your neighbours. Tell the local shop keepers. Put up notices in your local area. Describe your pet carefully and show photographs if you have them. Don't give up!
Please be aware that there are daily charges for board and lodgings, medical attention plus any vaccination costs and a statutory government fine of £25. If you think your pet is being cared for at the home you will be asked to visit and, if possible, bring along a photograph or some form of identification of your pet.
We keep dogs for 7 clear days before work begins to find new owners, so do make sure you contact us and come to visit as soon as possible.
Microchipping
When a dog arrives at Cardiff Dogs Home they are scanned to see if they are mico-chipped. If they are, your details will be obtained and we will call to let you know your dog is safe.
Don't forget to update your details if you move house or change your telephone number.
Deceased dogs which are picked up by the Councils Waste Management Teams are brought to the Dogs Home and scanned for microchip identification. If a microchip is located the dog's owner will be contacted immediately. Even if the dog is not micro chipped details on where it was found and breed and colour will be logged at Cardiff Dogs Home, information can only be passed on to the owner if they have reported their dog lost and left contact details with us.
