Whilst it is a legal requirement for your dog to wear a collar and tag they can easily be removed and are insufficient protection.
The safe answer is permanent identification - a microchip painlessly implanted under your pets skin at the back of the neck. The dog has a unique number which is placed on the pet log register.
If your dog is lost and picked up by one of our wardens, it will be scanned with a special hand held reader, the chip number displayed and we can reunite dog and owner.
It is 100% safe, reliable and highly recommended especially in the event of an accident.
Your dog can be microchipped for a small donation at the Dogs Home - please bring your dog anytime between 11 am and 3 pm, Monday to Friday or call 029 2071 1243for further information.
Don't forget to update the microchip details if you move house or change your telephone number.
Treat your pet to a good quality collar and make sure it has a disk attached with an up-to-date telephone number and/or address. This is a requirement by law.
