Cardiff Dogs' Home
Cllr Margaret Jones, Executive Member for the Environment said: "The Cardiff Dogs Home looks after more than 1200 dogs a year, and is really committed to caring for all of the dogs in its care. I would urge anyone who has an interest in the welfare of the stray dogs of Cardiff and the work that goes into finding them new homes to think about joining the ‘Friends of Cardiff Dogs Home' group. There are many ways to support Cardiff Dogs' Home. Whether you are able to volunteer your time or make donations, no matter what you do, it all helps."
One reason that 'Friends' has been set up is to help Fundraise for the Dogs Home and we are looking for volunteers to help raise funds, whether as a one off or on a regular basis, either going out and about or from the comfort of your own home.
We're sure you have more of your own ideas so please join in on our forum. We are a very friendly crowd, dedicated to helping the work of the Dogs' Home and would love to see you.

K12 Munch, Mastiff Girlie « Thread Started on Apr 23, 2012, 5:33pm »
ahem, I wonder why they called her 'Munch'
UPDATE: July 12, Munch is now a totally different girlie to the one that arrived at the Home when she was so overweight she didn't want to walk anywhere, poor love. She is now raring to go for a walk and can manage 45-60 minutes quite comfortably.
She now needs a loving Home of her own where her new owners can carry on exercising her regularly and continue with her diet as she does have a bit more to lose. I'd so love to see this girlie happy and content in her forever home - she so deserves it
Another tubster, veeeeeeeeery overweight! She weighed in at a whopping 62 kilos, that's 9 and a half stone!! Not surprisingly she loved a bit of pate and will sit for a treat. Seems to be a bit of an old girl and has a few lumps and bumps but is very sweet.
Munch is due for rehoming from 29 April, and the staff will make sure she gets an 'appropriate' diet and gentle exercise over the coming days.
No more munchie lunchie lovely lady! She found it a bit difficult to get around, and I'm sure she'll feel a whole lot better when she's shed a few kilo's Yep, she did a lovely sit, but struggled a teeny bit to get back onto her feet - no surprises there
I think she'll look like a different girl in a few weeks

To be honest Keira, I'm not sure I'll need to check, or if you're interested in adopting her, you could ring the home and speak to the staff She looks a teeny bit grey around her muzzle, but I think that's quite common in mastiffs who aren't in the very bloom of youth anyway.
I have to say, she moves like an old lady, but I really think that she'll shed years as the pounds fall off.

And now........
From the makers of 'The Snoop Loop'
Friends proudly presents...... The Munch Bunch
Miss Munch attended her first 'spa' session today
Getting to know Angela....
Munch has already lost 2 1/2 kilo's since she came into CDH, under the watchful eyes of the staff who are limiting her diet (no treats for the tubster) and with the help of gentle exersize with our fabulous walkers....
... yet her vital statistics were still a bit of a shock....
Just under 60 kilo's, and just over 1 metre around her tum
No time to waste Munch
All done - Good Girl Munch
Munch has obviously not had much exercise of late - her nails are pretty long, and although she is carrying a lot of weight, she doesn't have much muscle mass, but she took to it like a duck to water
The lovely peeps at Aquadogs have very kindly offered Munch two sessions per week whilst she's in the care of CDH, and we'll keep you up to date with her progress.
The Munch Bunch It's really important that Munch gets regular walks, so we will be putting her Walk Diary in reception. If you're a walker, please check to see if she's been out when you're there, and if she hasn't please consider taking this lovely lady out for a constitutional. It needn't be a long one, but little and often will do her sooooo much good
If anyone is available during weekdays and would consider taking Munch to her hydro-sessions, this would be a great help also. She travels beautifully in a car, no fuss, no mess
She really is going to look like a different girl in a few weeks We've already revised (downwards) her guestimage She's got a beautiful temperament, very placid, a little bit inquisitive, and altogether a loving and affectionate girlie

Kara and I see Angela's mum and whippet boy Kobi quite often in the morning on our walkies. We were talking about Munch having come in for aquatherapy. She was saying what a lovely lovely girl Munch is.

The girl done good yesterday
The staff and walkers at CDH are making sure that Miss Munch gets her daily constitutionals, and it shows Munch did 2 x 5 minute sessions in the underwater treadmill, and she's building up her fitness and stamina nicely - good girl Munch!
Munch's spa diary for the next week is as follows....

Took lovely Munch out for a walk this morning, she's doing so well, I believe she has lost a whopping 6.5kgs so far if what I heard is right
But today on her walk you can just see in her eyes and posture what a difference the weight loss has made, head held high trotting along beside you. I love this girlie!
