I would urge anyone who has an interest in the welfare of the stray dogs of Cardiff and the work that goes into finding them new homes to think about joining the ‘Friends of Cardiff Dogs Home' group. INBOX Ex SashPepp6 on 29/06/2012 PorkyChops1 sent you an email.

Can we rethink where we leave our messages my lovely? The noticeboard is so cluttered now it's taking me ages to sniff your latest note out. By the time I've found it I'm being called to heel and have to move on before I've finished reading. It's so frustrating. The area is getting filled with stuff like, 'Billy, life isn't just about chasing balls. A polite sniff and a wag would suffice in the morning.' 'Can whoever is messing by the rugby posts stop it immediately.'

How about the far corner of the alleyway, leading from Hazelhurst Road to the Park? [image]

I've been thinking about the HRH and non HRH thing you talked about in your last email. It ties in with an article I've just read titled, 'The psychological process of transition from local authority care for dogs to private accommodation'. The dog that wrote this said that after a prolonged period in a L.A. Home, it is a common reaction to feel that dogs who have never lost their home are somehow different from us; irritatingly unaware of how stress free their lives are and bothered by things that don't really matter in the grand scale of things, like how long their tuggie is. This dog said that these feelings will pass, and eventually it will be easier for us to see that all dogs face the same challenges - managing their owners inconsistencies and foibles, living with uncertainty and following the Dogs' Honour Code. Dogs like Sylvester are secure now, but who knows what will happen in the future. I met this sweet girl in CDH. She'd been with her owner for 7 years and they adored each other. They lived in a rented flat, he got made redundant and had to move into a hostel because he couldn't pay the rent any longer. The hostel didn't allow dogs so he had no choice but to take her to CDH. I was going out for a walk when they were saying goodbye to each other and it was heartbreaking to witness. (I think she eventually ended up in a good home with an elderly lady)

Anyway, I'm just saying it's early days for us still in our new lives. Keep writing sweetpea.

'Sleepless in Llandaff North'

It's the middle of the night Porks and I'm wide awake. I've got so much going through my head that I want to talk to you about.

This is so amazing. [image] [image] [image]

Right from day 1 the chemistry was always there between us, but it's only now I realise how much I love the way your mind works. [image]
I've been so busy living in the moment that I haven't really been giving enough time for quiet reflection. If it's okay with you I'd find it really helpful to use you as a sounding board ?
You kept quiet about it in CDH but I know you've done masses of background reading and research. Do you remember that time when there was all the kerfuffle about you trying to get your bed out of your kennel into the run? I knew you'd read the latest literature. I knew you believed the statistics and understood the demographics. You knew where your bed needed to be to have the best chance of getting rehomed. You were just ahead of yout time, Porks, and the system just wasn't ready for you yet.
ANYWAY - Could we please revisit the Dogs Honour Code. I'm a bit rusty with it, in fact I'm not sure I ever fully understood it all. This is what I do remember:
1) No physical, verbal or emotional abuse of our human family or their friends, relations and acquaintances. Burglers are fair game.
2) Co-operate with training by giving clear feedback to trainer about reward system currently in use.
3) Observe correct procedure when meeting and greeting other dogs
i.e. scan, signal and engage with care.
4) Place daily deposits within full view of owner so they have no excuse not to clear up. (You are protecting them from a spot fine by following this procedure)
5) Provide emotional support to members of family and act as if you understand what they're on about, even if it makes no sense at all.
6) Forgive, forget and move on.
7) Loyalty at all times - good or bad, happy or sad, rich or poor.

Can't think of anything else. Is that it?

It's Hailey Park Jamboree later. I've heard on the grapevine that there are going to be sausages there. I caught so many at Fonmon I ended up feeling a bit queasy. Such Fun! [image]

Our house is stacked up to the gills with car booty again. Where it all comes from God only knows. She was sorting it all out yesterday, singing away with some old bloke called Neil Young. Way before my time........... Bless!

Might see you later, got a few collywobbles!

I am soooooo sorry about Saturday. I had just finished cleaning all four paws ready to go out and before I knew what was happening I was heading north up the M5.

A surprise weekend break - gutted [image]

I knew you and the gang would all be there - Bas, Gutsy, Sam and Smudge. Bas has been posting up on Facebook that there is no way Smudge is going to beat him again in the Dash. He's gone into serious training - (watching Chariots of Fire) [image]

Apparently he's down on Barry Beach twice a week running through the surf, whistling the tune to psych himself up. [image]

Anyway I'm back now, and should be hitting the park again anytime soon, so I'll leave a note for you, my little chicken lips.

Porks xxxxxxxxxxxx

(PS Have you given any thought to what an honour code for dog owners might be.....mmmmmmmmmm....interesting.............

'Sweet dreams are made of this'...................

Just so you won't forget what I look like...... but I've lost the scar on my nose and that icky lip thing has gone.

We've been at sixes and sevens here. All the carpet is gone from downstairs and now I'm skidding around on solid oak floors. No kidding, I saw a cat outside the front room window, ran to warn it off, and ended up doing a triple salko with a toe loop.
Now she's saying she's going to make me some felt bootees to buff up the wood finish.

Yeah right!!!

I thought I saw you again this morning but it was a young lab and the rain was in my lashes.

I'm moving onto another tricky subject now ...... but things need to be said Porks.

Remember that rainy day in February when I said I was popping out to Starbucks with a walker - and you said, 'How come it took you 3 hours to have a drink and a biscuit?'
Well I took a left turn and ended up in the white room at the end of the corridor, and the long and the short of it is...... I'm not ever going to be able to have your puppies.
This might be a blow to you, but if I'm honest, it's a massive relief to me. I was terrified of having another litter. [image]
Would I have enough milk, would I end up all skin and bone, would I get sore nipples again (you cannot believe how painful THAT is), would my undercarriage cope with another 6 pups, and WHERE WOULD THEY ALL GO !!!! It was all too much to contemplate.

I had to sign a consent form to have all my bits taken away, and I've never been so pleased to put my pawprint to anything in my whole life.

Anyway, I know you had a mature attitude to the whole subject of N and S so I'm hoping you'll be able to take this is your stride.

Vaya con Dios mi amor [image]

I had to write straight back. YOU WERE SO RIGHT TO TELL ME ABOUT THE PUPPY THING. I can't lie to you Sash, I have been a bit of a dog in the past. I know there's quite a lot of my DNA trotting around Llanrumney - I'm not proud of it, but chastity for an unneutered dog is not an option. One whiff of a certain something and we can't help ourselves. All moral rectitude, self control and common sense hit the dust in the grip of a lust only an intact dog understands. It's a terrible thing to be a slave to.
I pinched my favourite chat up line from Dylan Thomas's Under Milkwood

.............'Let me shipwreck between your thighs' [image]

- but then Dylan was a bit of a dog himself, if truth be told.
Anyway my love, worry no more. You were always too much of a lady to mention it, but what you thought was a case of 'size doesn't matter' was in fact 'the done deal'. Happily I was sorted out very soon after arriving at CDH. Can you imagine the torment of being surrounded by all those ladies and not being able to do anything about it. [image]

I can't say it's affected me adversely. I still complete the Times crossword before lunch and physically I'm in tip top condition. I'm much more focused on achieving my goals and I'm able to relate to female dogs without that undercurrent of desperation that was so embarrassing.
Hey ho ..... it's all part of life's rich pattern, as my old mum used to say.

Porks this weather is killing me. IKEA fleece is all very well but in this heat what I need is some good old fashioned Egyptian cotton sheets. I've been sitting in front of the linen cupboard whining, but is she taking the hint? Is she heck ::)
I'm going to have to resort to a formal written request. She's got to respond to that in 24 hours or we're looking at a grievance procedure.
Not only that, but we've been going out for a walk way before I've properly woken up, and late in the evening when I'm settling down for the night. I'm all at sixes and sevens. [image] This heat is making me crabby [image]

On the plus side, the Co-op had a special deal on their pate this week so I've been getting some rather delicioso snacks in my Kong.

She's had a nasty dose of kennel cough this week so I've been sleeping downstairs for a change. The snoring I can cope with, but the coughing does my head in.

Anyway, how are you, mi amor? Have you gone away for the summer, are you walking in Bute Park now? I've would have given up hope of bumping into you except the old guy with the off white poodle told me he knew you, and that he thought you were now called Elmo. Elmo ????????? I'm gonna have to look that one up.

I'm not 100% sure about my new name either, but I'm happy enough to go along with it. Some of the dogs in the park hear me being called 'Sarah' and mutter on about it being a bit pretentious for a Staff. I just give them a look and say, Qui, moi?' That shuts them up.

Hope to hear from you soon, Sugarchops.

Te quiero mucho,
